At AIST we are developing an experiment to measure positron lifetimes in bulk samples. Positrons are created via pair creation inside the sample through irradiation of high-energy photons. The high energy photons are produced as Bremmstrahlung radiation when high energy electrons are incident on a target. The lifetime of positrons in the sample, which can used to deduce information about the distribution of defects or voids, can be determined observation of the annihilation radiation combined with the timing information about when the positron was created. Using an electron accelerator with a short pulse length and high repetition rate it is possible to obtain a lifetime spectra efficiently. We are now developing a superconducting accelerator as the high energy photon source. In the contribution the outline of the system will be explained along with preliminary results on test samples.
