|Resonant dielectric laser acceleration of nonrelativistic electrons|

We describe a resonant slab-symmetric dielectric laser accelerator for subrelativistic electrons. The structure consists of high refractive index alternating dielectric layers separated by a vacuum channel where the electrons travel through. The dielectric layer adjacent to the vacuum channel serves as a matching layer to support an accelerating mode with a phase velocity equals the speed of electron, while the outer layers form a Bragg reflector. The mode is excited by a laser side-coupled into the vacuum gap through periodic slots. Three-dimensional simulation were conducted to verify the field patterns. Acceleration gradient of 200 MeV/m for could be achieved without damage.
